PDP crisis in Ebonyi: The 15-member Caretaker Committee, led by Oruruo, promises total reform.

Date:

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Working Committee, NWC, has inaugurated a 15-man Caretaker Committee to oversee the party’s affairs in Ebonyi State.

This came after the emergency in the party deteriorated, with many stakeholders defecting to the All Progressives Congress, APC.

According to Tribunepoint weekly, the Ebonyi PDP hasn’t been the same since its 2023 general election defeat, which was attributed to the wrong choice of candidates.

Following the election, the NWC had made a number of futile attempts to reconcile the displeased stakeholders, which led to the most recent action.

Barr Steve Oruruo, a native of Enugu State, is in charge of the 15-member committee, which was officially established at the party’s South-East zonal office in Enugu.

Oruruo, a former PDP Secretary in Enugu State, has the primary responsibility of reuniting Ebonyi members who have been wronged and repositioning the party.

Chief Ali Odefa, the party’s national vice chairman, established the committee and instructed its members to carry out their responsibilities in accordance with the party’s constitution.

“You must uphold the PDP constitution, be loyal to it, and not to anyone, regardless of the person’s status, including myself,” Odefa stated.

He expressed optimism that the Oruruo-led committee would deliver in light of his previous experience in party administration and thanked the national party body for saving the state.

“Ebonyi State has taken in its example, and I’m content with the type of individuals that have been given this task, particularly the administrator,” he proclaimed.

A member of the House of Representatives who represents the Afikpo South/North Federal Constituency in the state of Ebonyi, Hon. Iduma Igariwey thanked the party’s national leadership for making the right choice.

Based on the pedigree and priors of the committee members, he emphasized that he had no doubt that the committee would meet expectations.

“What is now paramount in Ebonyi PDP is peace and harmony; every stakeholder must join hands to build our party.

We have high hopes, especially considering the caliber of the Caretaker Committee’s members.

“What we want now in Ebonyi is security of the party. We appreciate the decision made by our great party’s National Working Committee.

He advised, “We must do everything humanly possible to return to winning ways because Ebonyi State has been a PDP state since 1999, and we have always won our elections under the party.”

Answering in the interest of his individuals, the Director, Barr Oruruo said thanks to the party’s public body for finding them qualified to do the burdensome task.

He said, “I very comprehend the monstrosity of the undertaking given to me and my associates, and we have made up our psyches to do this task and won’t bomb our party.

“We are going to reorganize and revitalize the party in Ebonyi State by the special grace of God.” We will establish a new order and atmosphere of long-term peace.

He went on to say that the Committee, headed by Barrister Paschal Ukwuani, who hails from Enugu State as well and serves as its Secretary, would do everything in its power to reestablish the party in the state.

He claimed that it was nothing more than a jamboree to participate in elections without winning.

Assuring them of high-quality leadership throughout their term, the Chairman persuaded all stakeholders and gladiators in the state to avoid conflict and bitter politics.

The committee also has the following members: Barr. Francis Ibiam, Ude Akaji, Jude Omoha, Chief Godwin Nwode, and Hon. Amechi Oken, Boss Christopher Elechi Ngwuta, Dave Odey, and Hon Ezekiel Igede.

Additionally, there are: Hon. Hon. Chika Nwoba Engr. Emmauel Uka Okoro Monday Ogbonnaya, Edward Ifeanyi Odanwu, and Hon. John Onu
