Abia First Lady condemns activities of baby factories, says operators will be punished

Date:

Abia State First Lady, Mrs Priscilla Otti has expressed sadness with the discovery of a baby factory in the State by the Police.

She stated this on Friday while reacting to the rescue of 16 pregnant women and eight children by the Rapid Response Unit of the Abia State Police Command.

Two suspects linked with the baby factory were paraded at the Police headquarters on Friday.

Condemning the development, Otti assured that her office would care for the victims even while police investigations are ongoing.

“On a day when the world celebrates the remarkable achievement of women, it is disheartening to know that few individuals are working to exploit our young women for financial benefits.

“We totally condemn the activities of these baby factories because it goes against our moral foundation. A situation where young girls are exploited and have their babies forcefully taken from them exposes them to uncountable psychological and health danger.

“I am fully committed to training our young women in skill acquisition. For the victims, pending police the conclusion of police investigation, we shall make sure they are well protected,” she said.

She vowed that the immorality and wickedness against women, young girls and children would not be allowed to continue in the State as it tarnishes the collective efforts of the Abia State Government at remodeling the State.

She lamented that the operators of the baby factory exploited the economic circumstances of the young girls.

She noted that her office was collaborating with the Ministry of Women Affairs in the State to train girls and get them engaged to enable them reject the lure of evil.

Otti advised parents to closely monitor the association of their children and report any suspicious activities for immediate action.
